Personally, I'm open to the idea that the French Revolution and France's great territorial expansion afterwards were a group effort rather than solely the work of one remarkable genius, but I don't want to take the book as gospel either considering that it's written by a Brit. I have not found much in the way of critique AGAINST this book, other than reviews from people who didn't have the attention span to finish it at all! Has anybody else in the community read this and would like to comment? His letters and conduct all reveal a shocking lack of concern for the well-being of the people and soldiers he was supposedly trying to lead into a "glorious destiny". Apparently he was cucked left and right by Josephine and his later Austrian wife Empress Marie, his poor planning led to shocking and unnecessary casualties in Egypt and later campaigns his wars were totally unnecessary generals like Davout and Lannes carried him during campaigns such as Friedland and Wagram, respectively and as his officer corps got whittled down by the end of the Russian campaign he was himself hopelessly outmatched by the reformed Russians in the east and British regulars/Spanish guerillas in the west.
